This Eva Halac 's production, based on Christian Andersen's tale, is a story about the relationship between a nightingale and the Chinese Emperor and shows as any other Andersen's essence and his stylistic strength. The romantic exoticism turns China into a fabulous place where all the images of childhood come to life. The Nightingale is an esthetical challenge where images, language and music were thought to children amusement.

THE STORY: This is a singular story that takes place in China. The Emperor didn't know about a little bird, which everybody talked about. He ordered to take him to his palace and when he heard the bird's song he was totally astonished. However, a mechanical nightingale appeared. This bird was beautiful, it was never tired and it never made mistakes. The real nightingale went back to the woods. But after some time the mechanical bird broke and the Emperor got ill. A little girl brought the real nightingale back and when the Emperor heard him singing again, he recovered his health. THE SUBJECT: This story is about the artist's essence, the human nature, the mistake and the apology.

Andersen's characters are generally good, and the bad guys are not so bad. If they are bad, it is because they are interested in unimportant things. The lack of greatness makes them bad. Andersen's heroes are natural elements, innocent and pure: a child, a little bird. The subject is the wisdom of beauty.

THE STAGE: With the traditional glove puppet technique the stage recreates the traditional China atmosphere full of fascinating images.
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
The stage or "teatrino" was specially built with the techniques used in ancient theatres where the scenery moves in the presence of the audience. The lighting and projections turns the stage into a "magical box".
